The Notebook

A simple black rectangle with lined, squared, or blank pages, held by an elastic band and an inside pocket for loose sheets. Perhaps history’s most trusted notebook, it guarded notes, stories, ideas, thoughts, art and impressions before they turned into the pages of beloved books, the canvasses of revered art.

Chatwin has said of his Moleskine – the notebook progenitors of his works from In Patagonia to On The Black Hill – that ‘Losing my passport was the least of my worries, losing a notebook was a catastrophe’.

And in the same way, owning a Moleskine is a must for capturing all thoughts, all inspiration.

The Diary

A Moleskine diary isn’t just a diary. It’s a diary of legendary proportions. Countless numbers of the history’s greatest and most interesting characters have all carried their black Moleskine – the common thread from the chromatisms of Van Gogh to the witticisms of Hemingway!

For two centuries now Moleskine (mol-a-skeen’-a) has been the legendary notebook of creatives, writers, intellectuals and travelers. From gifted artists Henri Matisse (1869–1954) and Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890), to poet and leader of the surrealist movement André Breton (1896-1966) to perhaps the most influential writer of the 20th century – Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) – and famous travel writer Bruce Chatwin (1940-1989).
